If you travel to South Korea, set the country in the software accordingly and preset phrases and questions which cover common subjects or inquiries are shown on screen which are accessible through a simple menu. You'll be able to ask for directions, suggestions on restaurants, the location of the lavatory, and other life savers. Just make sure you turn the volume of the PSP way up so that the foreigner can hear Talkman's voice.

Enix originally released Star Ocean on the Super Famicom in July 1996 and the space opera of an RPG was a big seller and garnered favorable press from the likes of Famitsu and Famimaga. The game stood at 48 megabits which was massive back in the day and featured voice samples, vibrant music, and the graphics pushed the envelope of what was capable on the SFC. Fast forward over a decade later and Square Enix remakes the game with crisp animation sequences from Production I.G. and uses the Star Ocean: Second Story engine to power the adventure. The PSP remake also features new characters, spoken dialogue to accompany the conversations, and in-game cinemas to help relay the tale as important events transpire.

Star Ocean follows the story of a lad named Ratix Farrence who hails from Clatos Village. Along with Milly Kiliet and Dorn Matro, the trio protects their village from invading pirates. At the outset of the game, Ratix is speaking to his friend Dorn when Milly makes a grand entrance. From there, Ratix and friends can explore Clatos and then return home to trigger the next event where groups of sword-wielding pirates threaten the peace. Face them and engage in action-packed fighting sequences where players take control of Ratix and run and chop at enemies. While Ratix and Dorn do the attacking, Milly provides healing services in the background to make sure the two warriors don't succumb from their wounds. After rousting the enemy forces, the three friends return to Ratix's home where his mother gives the trio some refreshments to partake.

From there, Ratix and friends can explore nearby towns and eventually do a little invading of their own by entering the Velcant Lair which is the pirate's hideout...

Borne from the fiery loins of the devil, the main character of Makai Senki Disgaea is literally a lil' devil. When old Beezlebub croaks, the path of ascension to the throne is unclear and Satan's spawn Laharl must prove himself by taking on all ambitious rivals and pretenders to the throne.

Similar in design to games such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle and Hoshigami, characters battle enemies in 3-D isometric tactical theaters. Battles are turn-based where movement and attacks are selected from a menu. Conventional weaponry as well as magical spells may be used in the course of war and two comrades watch your back - a wispy devil girl named Etna (complete with forked tail) and a team of demon penguins known as Prinny join your party at the outset of the game. Additional soldiers and fighters may be created with Nippon Ichi's Free Character Creation System.

At the outset of the game, Etna bellows out in a loud voice to rouse Laharl who's sleeping soundly. After a short conversation, Laharl is free to explore Satan's lair which is populated with handlers of the demonic kind. Afterwards, Laharl ventures out into the world where the first encounter pits Laharl's party against cloaked enemies. Etna's Prinnies are in force even though she has to slap and even shoot one of them to make them behave. The PSP conversion of Disgaea includes a secret scenario and a multiplayer (ad hoc) mini-games such as Capture the Flag.

Based on an arcade game of the same name, your goal in Ultimate Block Party is to eliminate blocks from a board by grouping like-colors together. You can rotate groups of four blocks left and right. Lining up four pieces of the same color makes the pieces disappear from the board. As the four pieces are disappearing, you can continue connecting more pieces to the group, adding to a growing chain of piece annihilation. You can add an additional row with a quick button press (this is an advanced technique for those who don't have enough pieces to make combos), although rows are also added automatically as time progresses. This game was released as Kollon in Japan for the PSP launch. As he shuffles to his feet, a singular resolve grips him - escape. Help Nes roam through levels of 3D mazes in an effort to quit the dungeon life.

During Nes' travels, he'll encounter potential allies known as Experiment Objects or E.O.s which may join his party and help him battle foes and solve puzzles. Up to 60 E.O. crew members are scattered throughout the levels and each one possesses special abilities and powers that contribute to the overall escape plan. Up to three E.O.s may be inducted into the party at any time and work as a cohesive battle squadron.

The creatures in Heaven's Will are a bizarre gathering of monsters that bear some resemblance to the monstrosities in games such as Biohazard and Devil May Cry. NCS would describe them as human/monster mash-ups. Three types of weapons may be used in the game - Swords, Guns, and Shockwaves. Swords are made of mental reactive alloy and are used for close-up melee attacks on creatures that roam too close for comfort. Guns provide long-range reach and can be charged up for a more powerful blast. Finally, the Shockwave is a plasma weapon which causes long distance, wide ranging destruction. Like the gun, it may be charged up for higher levels of propulsive carnage.

Gundam Battle Tactics [J]

The One Year War flares up once again with Federation and Zeon at each other's collective throats in a new and original 3D action game from Bandai. Players choose a side at the outset, select a male or female mobile suit driver, and rush into battle against the opposition. Episodes are cut into missions where objectives are laid out at the outset and a difficulty ranking is assigned to the mission.

Upon starting the game, the following options appear:
Mission - Select the side of the Earth Federation or Zeon and start ops
VS Mode - Select a 1P Battle or network wirelessly again up to 3 gamers
Gallery - MS Viewer / War Record / Museum galleries
Option - Set BGM Level, Voice Level, SE Level, and configure controls

• Select Mission on the side of the Federation and the game starts with an encounter at Alice Springs. From the primer screen, we learn that the Field is Canyon and the difficulty level is ranked "D". Two Mobile Suits are selectable in this level, a GM with a default Beam Spray Gun and a GM[G] who hefts a default 100mm MG. Other weapons are available by moving the D-Pad left and right. If the game is started on the side of the Zeon, the first mission takes place in Hong Kong.

• The game runs fast with well animated Gundam movement as clunky robots roam the landscape with convincing weight - each running step juts down like a heavy leg and each move has apparent gravity. A Search Radar is located on the lower left corner which tracks enemies on the field. Weapons are listed on the middle right of the screen and the thruster reserve is on the lower right. Players may jump jet around the screen for short distances to close in on a target or flee from trouble. Each mission has a time limit which counts down on the upper left corner.

The controls are as follows:
D-Pad - Move the Mobile Suit around
Analog Pad - Change world perspective
X - Launch thrusters for a short hop. Press again for sustained flight.
O - Fire primary weapon
SQUARE - Activate secondary weapon
TRIANGLE - Sword attack
R TRIGGER - Lock-on to enemy
L TRIGGER - Raise shield

Double-tapping the D-pad in any direction will force the mech to thrust in that direction.

Gundam Battle Chronicle [J]

Slide into the frame of a Gundam mech once more and thrust into battlefields where enemy Zaku units are dismantled with beam weapons and buckshot. The latest and greatest 3D Gundam action game on the PSP features superb control. Repeat: superb control where the d-pad is used to jet a mech in all four cardinal directions with pinpoint accuracy. Attacks are also be triggered quickly once a corresponding face button is pushed for lightning fast sword slashes and follow-up gunfire if so desired. To test the fluidity of the game engine, we had our Gundam jetting, firing all three types of artillery, and orbiting a target without a single hiccup or slowdown from the game. It's all very impressive and demonstrative of how far Bandai has come along with the Gundam games since the original gray Playstation days when Gundam v1.0 was a humbling lesson in futility.

Gundam Battle Chronicle features two game modes: the Campaign Mode which links together 120 missions of varying difficulty and the VS Operation Mode which pits the player against three rampaging opponents. The default VS mode pits you against three COM-controlled mechs but up to three human players may link up wirelessly for some local area fireworks. The mech roster is impressive with over 140 robots to pilot, destroy, or use as support. The third mode of interest on the main menu is the Gallery which features five sections where players can view the mech suits, pilots featured in the game, and other fan-centric material.

» To dash in any direction, push the d-pad twice in the desired point of movement. Couple the dash move with the jump-jet thrusters for aerial dashes and your Gundam is as peppy as a jackrabbit. There's a move called the "RISING STEP" where you push down on the L-TRIGGER and then push up on the D-pad twice or thrice to rise upwards in stutter step fashion. To change the main weapon, hold the L-TRIGGER and press the SQUARE button to cycle between your arms. To throw out sub-weapon (grenade), hold the R-TRIGGER and press the SQUARE button.

Coded Soul is a 3D action-adventure game where Jay explores the military facility as well as the world of Idea in back-and-forth episodic jaunts. He can't stay in Idea for long and must return to his own world after a certain amount of time unless he can find areas which extend his stay. Once in Idea, Jay is gifted with a special power which allows him to bind monsters to his will by drawing their souls into himself. Once corralled, up to two beasts fight alongside Jay whenever the party is faced with enemy forces. The overall goal is to rescue May but a large number of sub-quests may be enjoined for added challenge.

While on his travels, he meets three girls - one of whom may be the very angel he's been looking for his entire life. Interact, romance and do your thing with the three lovelies and win a happy ending with "the one."

Toned down from the "adult" PC version of the game, the Playstation Portable version of Air mimics the "all age" PC release and removes nudity and other sexually charged scenes unsuitable for children. As a street magician in search of a winged angel, the protagonist seeks out anime maidens who sprout hair colors as vibrant and varied as the rainbow.

Akin to real world objectifications of beauty, the girls also possess unique personalities and quirks which are fleshed out as you delve into their lives. Two of the girls work at a medical office which supplies medicine to the town while another girl appears to be an alcoholic of sorts. A mild mannered but beautiful archetype and the sporty tomboy round out the cast. The PSP conversion features memory stick data caching to reduce UMD disc loading, full voice acting for the protagonist, and the ability to take snapshots of game screens and store them to memory stick.

The aim of the board game behooves players to roll the die and ramble around a map in order to procure more land, capital, and shares of stock than the competition. As play boards are conquered, gamers graduate to new stages where more challenges and wrinkles await. The default single-player game is Tournament Mode where players select an available character from DQ or FF, a stage to play upon, and then spin a slot machine to determine who rolls the die and moves first, second, third, and fourth. Once the game starts, four heroes spin the dice and move around in hop-step fashion. In addition to dice action, there's also the ability to check the asset levels of everyone in the game, purchase property, enhance the value of a property, buy stock, etc. When competitors land on properties owned by the player, they'll have to pay a levy before moving along.

The PSP version of DQ & FF in Itadaki Street features new maps from Dragon Quest III, Dragon Quest VIII, and Final Fantasy VI and wireless play to enable a rollicking good time for 4 players.
